Our Story

Albright Church exists to connect people to the best life possible by helping them to:

Begin   the adventure of a relationship with Jesus Christ

Belong   to an authentic community of faith

Become   fully committed followers of Christ

Jacob Albright (1759-1808) whom our church is named after, was deeply moved by the Wesleyan Revival. He avidly shared the gospel among the German immigrants in North America by organizing groups to meet for prayer and encouragement. These meetings were the foundation of the Evangelical Association which formed in 1816.

The Evangelical Association sent its first missionary to Western Canada in 1899, and one year later, November 22, 1900, Ebenezer Evangelical Church (which later became Albright Church) started with 14 charter members. The early church was located in various areas of Winnipeg until 1930 when a building was erected at the corner of Church Ave. and McKenzie St. At this time the name changed to Albright Memorial Evangelical Church. This was Albright's home for sixty years, which were spent teaching, serving and loving those in its community. In the early 1980's a growth surge brought the realization that the existing church building was not conducive to continuous growth. As a step of faith, the building was sold in 1990 and the church met for three years at Chief Peguis Jr. High School.

After several years of planning, sacrificing and hard work a new building was constructed on a 5 acre lot at 3400 DeVries Ave (now 415 Maxwell King Dr.). At that time the church name was changed to Albright Evangelical Church (and later shortened to Albright Church). The first worship service was held in our present facility on December 19, 1993.

As the church stepped out in faith, God was abundantly faithful in leading our growing church community.

God has consistently prepared us for stepping out in faith.  Through the years Albright has planted two new churches which are operating independently, and we continue to prayerfully explore how Albright can best serve God, our faith community, and our city in the future.

God has blessed us at Albright with a rich heritage and a wonderful church home. But Albright Church is more than just a building. Albright is a place where all are welcome and invited to begin the adventure of a relationship with Jesus Christ, belong to an authentic community of faith and become fully committed followers of Christ.
