Report to: Lead Pastor
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
The Youth Pastor shall give leadership to the Student Ministries and Young Adults of Albright Church. He/she shall be responsible to recruit, equip and mobilize a volunteer leadership team consisting of adults and older students. He/she shall be passionate about youth and relate well to youth; understanding their culture and how to cultivate an atmosphere of inclusiveness where students who are unaware of God’s passionate interest in them can actively engage on a journey of exploration and discovery in matters of faith and community. He/she shall provide leadership through a team to plan connection points and environments to help all students within the influence of Albright to grow in faith and community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Õ a clear and credible testimony to the saving faith of Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord
Õ a clear calling to the Christian ministry and service within the local church
Õ fulfill the leadership qualifications set out in I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; II Timothy 2:24-25; Galatians 5:2-23 and I Peter 5:1-5
Õ have relationships of integrity with and be respected by those outside the church and inside it
Õ have independent confirmation of the spiritual gifts of leadership and shepherding
Õ a personal history with and current involvement in student ministry
Õ life-giving demeanour that energizes those around you
Õ expertise in communication (both verbal & written) and highly developed listening skills
Õ adaptive capacity and comfortable with change
Õ ability to multi-task while maintaining orderliness
Õ confident and clear public communication/presentation skills
STANDARDS:
Õ qualify for membership in Albright Church
Õ able to give full support to and uphold the Statement of Faith, Vision and Values as well as the General Operating By-Laws of Albright Church and the EMCC, and Albright’s Plan to Protect Policy
Õ able to give full support to and live out the mission of Albright Church: to know Christ intimately, to live for Him passionately, and to make Him known publicly
Õ agree with and live out the Leadership Code of Conduct of Albright Church
Õ demonstrate servant leadership within an interdependent team
Õ have authentic and healthy relationships in their home and with those they work with
Õ handle relational conflict, which is inevitable, according to “The Peace Maker” model
Õ is committed to their own personal spiritual formation disciplines and professional training for ongoing growth and development in all aspects of life
Õ submit a current Police Check prior to the interview phase of the hiring process
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Õ to relate well to students and young adults as well as recruit, train and develop a leadership team (including adult and older youth) to carry out the mission, vision and purpose of Albright Church as it applies to Junior Youth (grades 7-9), Senior Youth (grades 10-12), and college age adults
Õ to give oversight of all youth and young adult ministry within the influence of Albright
Õ to work with Children’s Ministry Director to develop a family ministry model (see “Faith Begins at Home” by Mark Holmen)
Õ to ensure transitions from the preceding age group into the next age group are as smooth as possible and that as few children/youth/young adults are lost to the church as possible
Õ work with and build upon the necessary five key documents of a sustainable youth ministry (see chapter #5 of “Sustainable Youth Ministry” by Mark DeVries) – note: these control documents are currently in the development stage and the new Youth Pastor shall complete and maintain these five documents as well as lead out from them
Õ re-envision the current youth ministry (working within the existing ministry model/paradigms) and build a sustainable youth ministry that meets the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of students and young adults within the influence of Albright
Õ to be inclusive of cultures and interests represented by the area youth and young adults
Õ develop opportunities for students to use their gifts, talents and abilities to serve God
Õ participate with other staff and leaders in creating a positive team work environment at Albright, including communicating clearly to office staff all required information so plans can be coordinated
Õ to personally and by using leaders within a developed care network ensure that time is spent with students (coffee’s, lunches, hanging out, attending their school events, etc) to build meaningful relationships
Õ to ensure that the “Plan to Protect” policy is followed within this ministry and necessary record keeping is done
Õ other duties that apply to youth ministry as assigned by the Lead Pastor
Õ attend all church staff meetings and leadership functions as part of the church staff
Õ meet with the Lead Pastor bi-weekly for accountability, support and encouragement
Õ Albright office staff is available to support the Youth Pastor in the fulfillment of his/her responsibilities
EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS:
Õ have an applicable Bachelors degree from an accredited Bible College or cognate experience/education
Õ applicable Masters degree preferred but not required
Õ have a license or ordination with the EMCC OR another denomination having cognate or similar Vision and Values OR eligible for and willing to pursue credentials with the EMCC
EXPERIENCE:
Õ minimum 3 years in a leadership position in a youth ministry
Õ an excellent track record in recruiting, connecting with, supporting and encouraging volunteers (older youth & adults)
Õ a background in small groups within a youth & young adult context
Õ a track record of thinking and leading a ministry with a focus on relationship building and next steps as the top priority rather than programs being the main thing
