New to Albright Church

We understand that a first time in any new situation can be stressful. So, as you consider your first Sunday visit to Albright, here are the TOP TEN things to know in order to help reduce 'first-time-visit' stress.

1. WHEN DO I SHOW UP?

Albright's Sunday worship service is at 10:00am.  During the service we offer three safe and age-appropriate programs for children to participate in while you enjoy the service designed for youth and adults.

During the summer we just have Nursery care available for infants to age 3. Some summer Sundays will also include a special program for children ages 4 and up.

Check our church calendar for service times this month.

2. HOW DO I GET THERE?

Albright is visible from the North Perimeter and located at 3400 DeVries Ave. DeVries runs east off of Henderson Hwy, and is just south of the North Perimeter. Albright is the eastern most building on DeVries next to the open fields.  Access to Albright is now available from Maxwell King Drive.  Click here for a map and driving instructions.

3. WHAT DO I WEAR?

You’ll find that we’re pretty casual – shorts, jeans, t-shirts, slacks, dresses – it’s all good. You won’t find many suits and ties though, but if that’s what you’re comfortable wearing, go for it.

4. WHAT ABOUT PARKING?

Depending on the time of year the number of available parking spots can vary but there is usually enough room in the lot for everyone. There are handicap spots by the main doors and spaces reserved for seniors alongside the building. We also try to keep space available in the center aisle for visitors.

In the event that the lot is full, street parking is permitted along the south side of DeVries.

5. WHERE DO I GO ONCE I ARRIVE?

  • Enter the building through the main doors off the parking lot where you will be welcomed by greeters who are always glad to answer any question you have or to direct you to any place you need to find.
  • If you would like, make a stop at our Welcome Centre to introduce yourself or get information.
  • If you don’t have children you can go straight through the foyer and enter the multipurpose auditorium. Find a seat wherever you are comfortable.
  • If you have children and would like for them to participate in the age-appropriate programs planned for them, there are overhead signs in the foyer to direct you as follows:
    • Nursery (infant to age 3): turn left in the foyer and check-in at room 106.
    • Preschool Praisers (age 3 to Kindergarten): enter the auditorium and go through the single door to the right. Check-in is done at the first door on your left.
    • Kids’ Konnection (Grade 1 to 6): turn right in the foyer to the check-in table.

For those with infants we also have a quiet room available (room 104, towards Preschool Praisers) for a place to nurse/feed your infant. Diaper change stations are located in both women’s and men’s washrooms in the foyer.

There are washroom facilities in the foyer, to the left & right of the auditorium doors.

You can keep your coat/jacket with you or hang it up in one of the coat rooms on either side of the foyer.

6. WHAT IS AVAILABLE FOR MY CHILDREN?

As a parent you have the choice of having your child join you in the main worship service, but kids won't want to miss one of the three great, age-appropriate programs we have prepared for them during the service time:

  • Nursery for infants to age 3: Our Nursery is staffed with caring adults and youth ready to serve your family. Lots of toys, activities, and love make this room an inviting place for the littlest ones who come to Albright. (Turn left in the foyer and go to room 106.)
  • Preschool Praisers for age 3 to Kindergarten: A delightful class time includes singing, playing, a Bible lesson, games, crafts and a snack. (Enter the auditorium and go through the single door to the right.)
  • Kids’ Konnection for Grade 1 to 6: This is ‘church for kids’ at their level - designed to engage them to worship God through music and actions, learn relevant biblical truths in a large group setting, enjoy an age-specific small group interactive time, and build relationships while playing and talking together. (Turn right in the foyer to the check-in table.)

Please note: Preschool Praisers and Kids’ Konnection programs are offered from September to June. Some special programs are offered during the summer months for ages 4 and up.

Your children, and your peace of mind, are very important to us so we take ‘caring for them’ very seriously. As a church we have established a Plan to Protect Policy. Our check-in process is one important part of the care plan for your child(ren).

  • There are welcoming stations at the entrances to all three children’s areas where someone will walk you through the check-in process.
  • You will be asked for your child’s name and if they have allergies or any other special needs you want us to be aware of.
  • For infants to Kindergarten children, you will receive a call-back card with a number on it that matches your child’s nametag. If your child needs you during the service, we will alert you by discreetly displaying your number in the bottom corner of the auditorium screen so you can leave to attend to the needs of your child. In order to pick up your child at the end of the service you will be asked to return the card so we can be confident the child has been returned to the appropriate person.
  • Grades 1 and 2 children are to be picked up from the Kids’ Konnection area by a parent/older sibling/guardian at the end of the service, while Grades 3 to 6 will be released on their own.

After you’ve checked-in your children and have seen them welcomed by the leaders and connected with other children, find your way (or ask for help) to the auditorium and choose a seat wherever you will be most comfortable.

If you would like a tour of any of the children’s areas simply ask the person checking in your child and they will assist you.

7. WHAT IS THE SUNDAY SERVICE LIKE AND HOW LONG IS IT?

The hour and a quarter service offers contemporary God-focused live music, creative video and teaching that brings biblical truth alive in a life-giving way.

We are blessed to have several different worship bands, each with their own personality and musical flavour. This variety adds to our diversity and assists us in having freshness in our Sunday celebration. All bands use music written in the last decade as well as the occasional hymn or song from previous generations which remain rich in meaning.

The teaching may be based on a specific portion of scripture or on a theme within scripture. In either case the teaching will relate to real life issues we all face. If you want to get a feel for the teaching you will experience at Albright, you can check out the Message Library. Whether you decide to listen to a portion or all of a message we’d encourage you to use the message titles and summaries to find a topic of particular interest and relevance to your life.

8. CAN I BRING A CUP OF COFFEE WITH ME?

If you have your favourite brew or container you are welcome to bring it with you. We also serve free coffee and tea before and after the 9am service (on two-service Sundays) and before and after the 10am service (on one-service Sundays).

9. DO YOU HAVE A WELCOME CENTRE?

Yes. Every Sunday our Welcome Centre volunteers are ready to offer a warm welcome. They are happy to provide directions, answer questions, or assist you in any way.

Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself, or take time to browse through the information that is available there. We'd be delighted to meet you and help you feel more comfortable and connected, at whatever pace you prefer.

10. WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM A FIRST TIME VISITOR?

Simply put, there are no expectations. We will not single you out or ask you to do anything that will add to the stresses of a first time visit. For example: the offering is a time of worship for those who have already made Albright their home, so just pass the offering plate by if that is how you would be most comfortable. And if you want to stand or sit, sing along or simply choose to watch and listen to the music, that too is OK.

You can be as anonymous as you want to be, but don’t be surprised if you don’t make it out the door without several people greeting you with a warm genuine welcome.
