It is time to pack shoeboxes! Operation Christmas Child is a hands on way for us to bless struggling children in the developing world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, clothing, etc. The boxes are collected at local churches (Albright Church being one of the drop off locations) and businesses and then they are sent to the closest processing center to be checked by volunteers and prepared for transit. The boxes that are collected at Albright are sent to the OCC processing center in Calgary. The boxes are then stored there until they are sent out and distributed in the name of Jesus Christ to children in over 100 countries. The boxes that are collected in Canada this year will be sent to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea and Sierra Leone.
There are still so many people worldwide that still need to hear about the Good News of Jesus Christ. OCC is a ministry of Samaritan's Purse which exists to follow the examples of Christ by helping those in need and proclaiming the hope of the gospel. Even before the shoeboxes arrive, Operation Christmas Child equips local churches and ministry partners to provide teacher training to share the Good News of the gospel. After the shoeboxes have been distributed, the children have the opportunity to take part in the 12 lesson discipleship program called The Greatest Journey. For every 25 shoeboxes packed, 4 children come to know Jesus as Lord by way of these discipleship lessons. The Lord is doing great things as we share the gospel with these beautiful young souls. Many of the children that have received shoeboxes have gone on to minister to their own communities and continue to make an impact for the gospel. Churches are being started in places where there has never been a Church before.
Worldwide over 10,000,000 shoeboxes were packed in 2018. Canada packed 517,437 with 36,164 coming from Manitoba. Albright collected 164 shoeboxes last year which translates into 27 children coming to know the Lord Jesus through the shoeboxes that were collected at Albright in 2018! Please pray for Operation Christmas Child and the children that will be receiving the shoeboxes that God's name would be glorified in all the earth through these simple gifts.
Empty cardboard OCC shoeboxes can be picked up free of charge at Albright Church or new for this year we are selling reusable shoeboxes for $4.00 each. They can be purchased at the Church Office or the Welcome Center. You can also pack and track a shoebox online. If you would prefer to just donate some items to be packed into shoeboxes, they can be dropped off at the Church also.
