Encounter Jesus

  Summary

Series Summary:  Jesus said that when he would be lifted up from the earth that he would draw all people to himself. It is the aim of this series to encounter the real Jesus, to be drawn to Him, to fall in love with Him and to live for Him.

Series Scripture:  “And I, when I am lifted upfrom the earth, will draw all people to myself.” John 12:32

  The Miracle of Faith

Core Truth: Many people are offended by the assertion that only Jesus is the source of real life and many will not believe. In this encounter with Jesus the disciples are challenged to count the cost of following Him. It requires the miracle of faith to make that commitment and we need to weigh up the alternatives.

Scripture: John 6:60-70

Speaker: Nathan Wachal -  Associate Pastor, Community Initiatives & Worship Arts

Date: April 2, 2017

  The Miracle of Life

Core Truth: Physical food is needed to sustain physical life. It is vital. But it is not all that we need. We need the life that comes from God that will feed our souls and cause our lives to flourish. In this encounter with Jesus, we learn how to feed on Him.

Scripture: John 6:25-59

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: March 26, 2017

  The Miracle of Presence

Core Truth: Life can change in a moment.  We may have a great vision of where we want to go and what we want to accomplish but suddenly
become frozen by fear.  This encounter with Jesus teaches the disciples and us to rely on the miracle of God’s presence to get us to our destination.

Scripture: John 6:16-24

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: March 19, 2017

  The Miracle of Multiplication

Core Truth: We tend to think more produces more. More work, more effort, more resources and we will get more in return. This encounter with Jesus would leave a hungry crowd completely satisfied with a child’s packed lunch. In God’s economy less can become more when offered in faith.

Scripture: John 6:1-14

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: March 12, 2017

  Jesus on Trial

Core Truth: We have no need to crumble when faced with persecution for doing what is right. The defense and the prosecution that Jesus presents shows us where our identity and authority lies so that we can continue to live for God’s honour.

Scripture: John 5:19-47

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: March 5, 2017

  Jesus’ Unlikely Crime

Core Truth: When you do something good for someone you don’t expect to get ridiculed for it. Jesus responds to those who accuse him of committing a crime because he healed on the Sabbath. How can we avoid the subtle dangers of legalism – keeping the letter of the law and remain faithful to God?

Scripture: John 5:1-18

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: February 26, 2017

  Jesus the Healer

Core Truth: Jesus reveals himself as the one who not only heals souls but also sick bodies. Should we pray for God to heal the sick today? What should we expect and what impact should it have in our faith in God?

Scripture: John 4:43-54

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: February 19, 2017

  Sharing Christ With Others

Core Truth: Encountering Jesus means you will want to share your experience of Him with others. What can we learn from a woman who suddenly realized who Jesus was and what He would do for her?

Scripture: John 4:27-42

Speaker: Nathan Wachal - Associate Pastor, Community Initiatives & Worship Arts

Date: February 12, 2017

  True Worship

Core Truth: Until a person encounters Jesus their worship is misplaced no matter how sincere it is. When Jesus encounters a woman he leads her to understand how finding satisfaction in God is at the heart of every true worshipper.

Scripture: John 4:16-26

Speaker: Nathan Wachal - Associate Pastor, Community Initiatives & Worship Arts

Date: February 5, 2017

  I Can't Get No Satidfaction

Core Truth: We try our hardest to get satisfaction out of life but find that no matter what we try it never fully seems to live up to its billing. One woman’s search for satisfaction began when she encountered Jesus who offered her something completely different, something that would last.

Scripture: John 4:1-15

Speaker: Sam Devine

Date: January 29, 2017

  Radical Commitment

Core Truth: The radical life that is made possible by the radical love of God enables radical commitment to live for Him. We cannot respond half-heartedly. It’s all or nothing.

Scripture: John 3:22-36

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: January 22, 2017

  Radical Love

Core Truth: The love of God is more radical than we could ever imagine. He not only loves us whoever we are, he loves us enough to take the rap for our rebellion so that we could have eternal life.

Scripture: John 3:16-21

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date; January 15, 2017

  Radical Life

Core Truth: The Life that Jesus came to give is not an upgrade to the one we already have. It is the equivalent to a complete re-set of our lives. Jesus explains what how this radical new life begins.

Scripture: John 3:1-15

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: January 8, 2017

Jesus Stops the Sale of Religion

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: November 20, 2016

  Jesus the Joy Giver

Core Truth: I’m not sure that we would have chosen as a first miracle for Jesus to change water into a wine at a village wedding. Why he did reveals much about the mission and purpose of Jesus and the life he gives.

Scripture: John 2:1-12

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: November 13, 2016

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: November 6, 2016

We have the privilege of making straight paths for people to get to Jesus and Jesus is the one who opens up the way to God.

Scripture: John 1:19-34

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor

Date: October 30, 2016

  Jesus Makes God Known

Core Truth: Jesus makes God known by moving into the neighbourhood and experiencing life as we do. In doing so no one could ever say they do not know what God is like. He is full of grace and truth.

Scripture: John 1:15-18

Speaker: Nathan Wachal - Associate Pastor, Community Initiatives & Worship Arts

Date: October 23, 2016

  Who is Jesus?

Core Truth: Historically Jesus is acknowledged as a teacher, a prophet and a moral leader. But who is Jesus really? The answer to this question will impact how we live our lives either as His child or as a rejecter.

Scripture: John 1:1-13

Speaker: Sam Devine - Lead Pastor
